The Story:
Richard
Carstone and Ada Clare are the wards in Jarndyce and Jarndyce, a convoluted
lawsuit which has been grinding on for decades. Being young and orphaned,
they are taken in by John Jarndyce, the other principal claimant in the
case. They are accompanied by Miss Esther Summerson, who has been
engaged as Ada's companion and Mr Jarndyce's housekeeper at Bleak House.
The four live happily together, while the two wards fall deeply in love,
unaware that events of the past are about to turn their world upside down.
Mr Jarndyce's neighbour, Lady Dedlock, is habouring a secret that affects
Miss Summerson. A secret that leads to murder, tragedy and sorrow.
In the best traditions of soap operas, lots of other characters make themselves
known. Some of them coincidently concerned with either the lawsuit
or Lady Dedlock.
