Joanne Harris

Born Joanne Michele Sylvie Harris on July 4 1964 in Yorkshire, Joanne Harris is the well-known British author of books such as "Chocolat". Her Mother was French and her Father English, and she grew up in her Grandmother's sweet shop. Her childhood was filled with good food and folklore, which influenced the kind of fiction she was interested in writing.

Ms Harris's first novel was "The Evil Seed" which was published in 1989. She published another in 1993, but it was not until she wrote "Chocolat", which was published in 1999 when she began to make a name for herself, for writing novels filled with details of delicius food and mystery. "Chocolat" reached the top of the Sunday Times bestseller list and was made into a film which featured Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp.
